In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. Neil Harbisson was born completely colorblind, but when doctors told him there weren’t any treatments available, he started thinking about another way he could “see” color.
So he worked to design an implant with a sensor that could pick up light and read wavelengths. A corresponding chip that’s implanted against his skull then translates the colors into vibrations.
Since his successful implant surgery in 2004, Neil has been able to “hear” colors and feel their vibrations. Each color Neil sees is perceived as a note that he hears.
But it hasn’t been easy. After losing his job and almost getting denied a passport, Neil now works to protect the rights of cyborg and change the public’s perception of them.
Artist Neil Harbisson was born completely color blind and sees the world in grayscale. But even though Neil cant see color doesnt mean he cant sense it. Thats because Neil Harbisson is a cyborg who can hear color.
In 2004, Neil convinced a doctor to implant into his skull an antenna that detects and transposes colors into corresponding tones — allowing him to hear color through bone conduction. He considers it a new body part.
«This is an implant, so its permanently attached,» Neil says. «Theres no way of removing it.»
As co-founder of the Cyborg Foundation and one of several known cyborgs on this planet, Neil expects humans to be more open to the idea of implanting technology into their bodies in the near future.

Brad Blanton Phd. is a psychotherapist, trainer and american writer, author of the «Radical Honesty» bestseller, a book and a theory that challenges a fundamental and almost unchallenged belief of our society. In a truly honest talk, maybe brutally honest, Mr. Blanton convinced the audience that honesty, and not politeness or political correctness is the essence of human relationships and a fulfilled life. Maybe being radically honest all the time is difficult to accept, maybe it is even an idea that a lot of people cannot digest but it is surely an idea that at least has to be intellectually entertained.
