In 2002, Jason Padgett was the victim of a vicious beating outside a karaoke bar in Tacoma, Washington. Upon regaining consciousness, Padgett’s sight was forever altered by a condition called acquired savant syndrome. The brain trauma opened his eyes to an entirely new world—one filled with patterns and strobes, like a stop-motion film. This is a fascinating story into the hidden power of the mind and one man’s inspiring tale of courage and personal triumph. The Acquired Savant is a film by Thomas Petersen.

Meet the cyborgs. Neil Harbisson hears in colors through an antena attached to his skull, and Moon Ribas choreographs earthquakes with a sensor in her elbow. «Whats it like to be a cyborg» explores how two of the first human cyborgs in the world listen to sounds and dance to the rhythm of earthquakes. Neil, visual artist and composer, and choreographer Moon are the founders of the Cyborg Foundation and talk about their personal relation with cybernetics, and how technology changes their perception of life. At the end of the talk, they also do a short music performance using their cybernetic body extensions. Presented by Lila Pla Alemany.
Neil Harbisson, became the first person recognized by a government as a cyborg. Harbisson was born with achromatopsia, a condition that only allows him to see the world in black and white. Since he was 20 years, he installed an electronic eye («eyeborg») into his head that allows him to listen to colours. Moon has been using other cybernetic devices such as the speedborg, the 360º sensory extension and the seismic sensor to extend her perception of movement and applied this to her artistic work with pieces like Waiting for Earthquakes.

As an emergency room physician, Chris Johnson has worked on the front lines of the opioid epidemic. He argues that the epidemic is not an accident, and that the medical industry and its system of incentives have in fact created this crisis at the expense of effective, compassionate medicine driven by science. Dr. Chris Johnson is a nationally recognized expert on the opioid and heroin epidemic which currently claims over 25,000 American lives per year. He has spoken throughout the country on this topic to medical and non-medical audiences alike, and brings an urgent message on the need to reform a medical industry that has prioritized business interests over patient safety. All throughout the Woodstock festival Krsna’s Village of Peace was teeming with tens of thousands of people exploring all we had to offer: kirtan, dramas, books, yoga, shops, exhibits and a tent where they could inquire from senior devotees. Our Ratha Yatra Cart traversed the entire Woodstock site numerous times each day. Colourfully dressed, devotees seemed to be chanting and dancing everywhere in ecstasy. Over 150,000 plates of delicious prasadam were distributed. We cooked more than 38 tons of foodstuffs! As the festival drew to a close I meditated on a verse by Srila Prabodhananda Sarasvati:
“The fortunate town of Navadwip remains on the earth. The seashore remains. The city of Jagannath Puri remains.The holy names of Lord Krsna remain. Alas! I do not see anywhere the same kind of festival of pure love for Lord Hari. O Lord Caitanya! O ocean of mercy! Will I ever see Your transcendental glory again?"
