Our festival’s are an interesting blend of east and west in order to attract the general mass of people to the deeper message of Krsna consciousness. According to the Padma Purana, the demon Muran was about to kill Lord Vishnu who was in deep meditation when the Lords Shakti emerged and burned the demon to ash. Pleased with Her service, the Lord named Her Ekadashi and offered Her a boon. Thinking of others rather than Herself, She asked that all people who observe a fast on this day would be redeemed of their sins and attain Vaikuntha.
