The Magars form the largest ethnic minority in Nepal. They are scattered throughout the whole country, but they are more concentrated in the region of Mid-Western Nepal (the area of todays Rukum and Rolpa districts). The film tells the story of the Rebel King Lakhan Thapa Magar, celebrated as Nepals first martyr. This legend of the 19th century tribal warrior reveals the nature of the early tribal rebellions against The Hindu kings. It presents a glimpse into the long process of state formation and the cultural history of the Himalaya.

Fifty years ago, a 70-year-old monk travelled from India to the United States in the hope of starting a spiritual revolution.
His name was Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and on July 13, 1966 he incorporated the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), formalising what is widely known as the Hare Krishna movement.
ISKCON now runs 602 temples, 54 schools and 65 farming communities across the globe.
This month, the New Govardhana Hare Krishna community at Eungella, near Murwillumbah in northern New South Wales, hosted about 1,000 visitors to mark the 50th anniversary of ISKCON.
New Govardhana president Ajita Dasa said the milestone proved the Hare Krishnas belonged to a serious religious institution.
«It means the establishment has gone through what most religious organisations have gone through,» he said.
On the second leg of our Char Dham parikrama we visited the holy site of Gangotri. Gangotri is situated not far from where Mother Ganges flows out of the Himalayan mountains. In the town of Gangotri is a beautiful temple where Mother Ganges is worshipped and people can be seen bathing in her sacred waters in the many ghats along the river. In this video we see scenes of Mother Ganges in both Haridwar and Gangotri as we hear of her descent from the spiritual world into the material creation.
The beautiful deity of Gopinath was discovered at Vamsivat in Vrindavan 500 years ago by Madhu Pandit and Paramananda Bhattacarya. Madhu Pandit served Gopinath with great love and devotion for many years. Centuries later Gopinath was moved to Jaipur where He has been worshipped along with Srimati Radharani ever since. The temple is popular with the people of Jaipur, who come together daily to chant Radha Gopinath’s glories. Our parikrama party eagerly visits the temple each Kartika.
