Tashi Delek from the Guge Kingdom!
Today, I will show you an exploration trip to the lost kingdom in western Tibet.
The Guge Kingdom, one of the first important cultural relics sites under protection in Tibet, is a place full of stories and mysteries.
Even I am a Tibetan, every time I come here, I got a feeling of mystery.
The ancient Guge kingdom has so many mysteries and secrets. Can you imagine there used to be a kingdom with over 100,000 citizens in such a wild area? Even now, people have no idea how this beautiful kingdom was destroyed in one night. No one knows what happened here.
Where do these tunnels lead? Where are the secret ways of the winter palace?
With many questions, I explored the ruins of Guge kingdom in my way. I crossed the tunnels in the ruins, which were believed to reach the hidden city of Shambala. I climbed to the winter palace at the top of the ruins, exploring the rooms, but found nothing.
Just like playing a treasure hunt game, I was always able to find some connection to my Tibetan ancestors.
Also, the Ruins of Guge Kingdom is an awesome place for photographers to take pictures. From the top of the kingdom ruins, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Guge valley.
The Tholing Monastery, which is 18 kilometers away from the ruin of Guge Kingdom, is also worth a visit since it is the first monastery in west Tibet. Although it has been destroyed many times in the past, you can still see many ancient stupas, statures, morals, and so on in this old monastery.
I really recommended the ruins of the Guge Kingdom for you, which you can add to your Kailash tour.
In the end, I would like to share some tips for your trip to the Guge Kingdom.
1. Please wear a pair of comfortable hiking shoes, as you will need to climb to the top of the ruins.
2. The ruins of the Guge kingdom are heavily weathered and not very stable and fixed in some places. Please be careful not to get too close to dangerous areas such as the outer walls near the cliffs.
3. The steps inside the ruins are very steep, so please watch your step.
4. If you are interested in Tibetan history, you can learn more about the legends of the Guge Kingdom before you go. It will be more interesting to bring your own questions to find your answers about the lost kingdom.

A documentary on the Glories of Govardhan Hill by Bhakti Caitanya Swami
The Vedic scriptures proclaim that the glories of Lord Krishna are unlimited and eternal and no one is able to reach the end of them. In the same way, who can fully describe the splendid glories of Sri Giriraja-Govardhana, the best servant of the Lord and at the same time non-different from the Lord Himself? To protect his dear vrajavasis from Indras wrath, Sri Krishna held the Hill on the small finger of His divine hand for seven days. The area of Govardhan is full of wonderful forests, lakes, caves, waterfalls, jeweled paths, platforms and pavilions. Lords most intimate pastimes places — Sri Radha-kunda and Sri Syama-kunda are located at the foot of the Hill. The Vaishnava acharyas and saints left us a great treasure of scriptures, describing the wonderful pastimes, which are going on eternally in the shade of Giriraja. Here are but a few drops of this nectar.
The holy place known as Mathura is spiritually superior to Vaikuntha, the transcendental world, because the Lord appeared there. Superior to Mathura-Puri is the transcendental forest of Vrndavana because of Krsnas rasa-lila pastimes. And superior to the forest of Vrndavana is Govardhana Hill, for it was raised by the divine hand of Sri Krsna and was the site of His various loving pastimes. And, above all, the superexcellent Sri Radha-kunda stands supreme, for it is overflooded with the ambrosial nectarean prema of the Lord of Gokula, Sri Krsna. Where, then, is that intelligent Person who is unwilling to serve this divine Radha-kunda, which is situated at the foot of Govardhana Hill?
(Sri Upadesamrita, verse 9)
«Of all the devotees this Govardhana Hill is the best! Or my friends this Hill supplies Krishna and Balarama, along with their calves, cows and cowherd friends, with all the necessities: water for drinking, very soft grass, caves, fruits, flowers and vegetables. In this way the Hill offers respects to the Lord. Being touched by the lotus feet of Krishna and Balarama, the hill appears very jubilant».

34-year old Sgrolmamtsho married Dongrub at the age of 21 (in 1993) without experience of housework, fieldwork, and fetching wood. Filmed by her husbands younger brother, phagspadongrub, in Amdo, the film concentrates on the daily life of Tibetan village women--fetching water, feeding livestock (swine, a cow, a mule), milking, cleaning the stables, cooking, household religious activity, weeding fields, transporting manure to fields, fetching wood for fuel--along with commentary by Sgrolmamtsho about her life and family. (Rare insight into Tibetan village womens lives. Tibetan soundtrack; English subtitles. 52 minutes. Color.)
Twice a year the forbidding journey to the boarding school is necessary. Father Latak, looks to the sky and attempts to predict how the weather will develop. Only when he is sure that no storm is brewing, he starts to prepare the children for the trip over the river. It is a route that is so notorious, that it even has a name: Chadar- the path over the cloak of ice. One last time, his ten year old son Motup, plays in front of their hut. Motup is one of the few kids who regularly leave the village in order to attend one of the the better schools in town. Then the family gets ready for the long trip. The mother has sewn thick wool socks for the father and the children, and Tebean prayers and mantras are recited for protection along the way. Then the trip begins, where the children muss trust completely the experience and skill of their father.
The first steps, only a few kilometres until the frozen river, seem easy for the family. But father Latak recognizes immediately that the spring has come early this year and the sun has already began to compromise the ice. This is not a good sign, since the thinner the ice the more dangerous the trip becomes. Latak goes before the children and tests with a stick before each step on the ice. Often the ice cracks a bit, but the ice remains whole. Latak knows that no one should travel the Chadar without a good reason. But the education of the children is a good enough reason to take on the risks involved.
He knows that if he goes first and the ice carries his weight, that it will also carry the weight of the children. If it does not, it will be he that will fall in the icy water and not his two children. At the same time, Latak, Motup and the other members of the crew must keep a close eye on the mountains. The massive mountain ranges on both sides of them seem to be a scene form a picture book, peaceful and lordly. But there is danger lurking. At any given time, an avalanche can break out. Many times before people have been caught by avalanches here.
In the mean time the sun has already thawed the middle of the river. But since there are steep rocks right and left, Latak must now search for a new path for them to continue on. He leaves Motup behind him and luckily finds a way. It is a 20 cm wide path on the rocks at the edge of the river, and up to ten meters high.
They need almost an hour, skipping from rock to rock until they finally reach an area where the river is again covered with ice. Now they must find a place to set up camp as soon as possible before it becomes dark and the temperatures sink to as low as -30 degrees Celsius. Latak knows a cave where they will be protected and finally be able to get some rest. They must gather their strength because the most dangerous part of the Chadar still lies before them.
The ice is almost completely melted. Only a 50 cm wide strip borders right and left the ice-cold water, making the river absolutely impassible. Rocky overhangs above the ice block the way. Father and son must now crawl its way to school. Father Latak tests his way over the ice on his belly. After any progress made, he pulls his son by their hands to him.
There are countless dangerous situations that make this way to school so unpredictable. But after four days it is over, they have reached their goal; the city of Leh and the school.
Tatawale Baba- his only discourse audio available. I have tried my best to do English translation but not perfect. The discourse is deeply spiritual so may not get understood by all. Discourse is in Hindi so I haven’t made sub titles in Hindi. Though I have tried to write down what he spoke. Again sometimes it is not very clear what he spoke due to poor audio and his punjabi scent and my Hindi not so pure. Nevertheless I have made an effort.
It is said that Lord Caitanya’s secret weapon is prasadam, or vegetarian food offered to the Supreme Lord. It’s no longer a secret in Poland, however, as we distributed 160,000 plates of prasadam in Krsna’s Village of Peace at the recent Woodstock festival, now known as the Pol’and’Rock festival. We cooked, offered and distributed 160,000 full plates of prasadam in 5 days to the people attending the event. We prepared over 50 tons of foodstuffs! Two hundred devotees worked in shifts around the clock in 7 different large kitchens. Prasadam is tasty, nourishing and purifying. Our hearts were completely satisfied introducing the wonderful world of Krsna consciousness to the people in this way.
