Let’s Talk Porn | Maria Ahlin | TEDxGöteborg

We have to talk about porn! We have to talk about what message porn is sending and what it teaches our children! More and more extreme content found in mainstream porn, making people less sensitive to sexual aggression. Despite these alarming facts, porn is still one of our biggest taboos. Today, most children are first exposed to pornography at a worryingly young age, in fact, porn is the number one sex educator among young teenagers. Porn is a drug, but why isn’t it treated as an addiction?
In addition to being a public speaker, author and educator Maria is also head of youth organization Changing attitudes. As an expert on issues concerning pornography and sex-buying she has given more than 400 public talks. In her research, she has met with more than 500 people in prostitution, as well as thousands of sex-offenders. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I was in opioid withdrawal for a month — heres what I learned | Travis Rieder | TEDxMidAtlantic

The United States accounts for five percent of the worlds population but consumes almost 70 percent of the total global opioid supply, creating an epidemic that has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths each year. How did we get here, and what can we do about it? In this personal talk, Travis Rieder recounts the painful, often-hidden struggle of opioid withdrawal and reveals how doctors who are quick to prescribe (and overprescribe) opioids arent equipped with the tools to eventually get people off the meds. Travis Rieder, PhD, is the Assistant Director for Education Initiatives, Director of the Master of Bioethics degree program and Research Scholar at the Berman Institute of Bioethics.

Travis’ work tends to fall into one of two, quite distinct research programs. The first concerns ethical and policy questions about sustainability and planetary limits. Much of this research has been on issues in climate change ethics and procreative ethics with a particular focus on the intersection of the two – that is, on the question of responsible procreation in the era of climate change. The second research program concerns ethical and policy issues surrounding America’s opioid epidemic.

In addition to his more scholarly writing, Travis is firmly committed to doing bioethics with the public. He writes regularly for The Conversation and blogs occasionally at The Huffington Post and the Berman Institute Bioethics Bulletin. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

A Day In A Himalayan Forest | Documentary Film Nepal

Himalayan forests are home to abundant biodiversity. Forests play an important role in the livelihoods of rural people worldwide, particularly in the poorest socio-economic groups (i.e., indigenous peoples, peasant communities, tribal and rural societies) living in and around forested areas. In this film we follow a group of Kham Magars from Mid-Western Nepal that set on a journey to the high Himalayas to gather wood for building a village house. The wood was collected at the altitude of 3500m (11500ft) above the village of Maikot in Rukum District.

The Desire Trees of Vrindavan - Varsana is the sacred home of Srimati Radharani

Varsana is the sacred home of Srimati Radharani where she lived with her parents during the early years of Her life. Along with Her gopi maidservants She would traverse the wooded forests of Varsana as they went to the market to sell their milk products — sometimes meeting Her beloved Krsna along the way. One of Her favorite forests still exists to this very day with ancient “desire trees” still dotting the landscape.
