In 1950, long after most of the weary world laid down its arms in the aftermath of the Second World War, a battle for freedom continued to be waged, shrouded behind the newly drawn Iron Curtain.
The Undefeated (2000) is the true story of General Roman Shukhevych (Gregory Hlady) a genteel family man forced by brutal circumstances and his own sense of honor and duty to lead the fight to deliver his people from the savageries of both the Nazis and Soviets.
Producer and director Oles Yanchuk, hailed by both the NY Times and Time Magazine for his heart-wrenching film, Famine 33, delivers an internationally renowned team of filmmakers and artists to bring to the screen the epic story of Roman Shukhevych.
Set against the backdrop of an underground war, Yanchuk explores the complex character of Shukhevych, his revulsion at ethnic discrimination, his love of music, his genius in combat. The film smolders with the passion of the man and ignites the viewer with the same fire that Shukhevych fueled in his countrymen — the unquenchable flame of freedom.
Filmed on location in the exotic and mysterious Carpathian Mountains, the tarnished but still opulent cities of Odesa and Kyiv, and the architecturally stunning city of Lviv, The Undefeated is a movie filled with explosive action and suspense. It is a personal story of faith and commitment and ultimately, the victory of freedom over tyranny. www.artukraine.com/filmart/undefeated1.htm
In this epic Talk, Colin OBrady, explains his journey back from a tragic burn accident only to ascend to the 7 tallest mountains and two poles on earth — in world record time.
His idea is centered around mindfulness and how one can achieve anything no matter the circumstances.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. Colin, a native of Portland, is a testament to mindfulness, setting audacious goals and achieving them despite overwhelming odds. Last year, Colin set two world records: He became the fastest person ever to complete both the Seven Summits (climbing the highest peak on every continent) and the Explorers Grand Slam (the Seven Summits skiing to the last degree of the North and South Poles). He completed the challenges in 131 and 139 days, respectively. His nonprofit, Beyond 7/2, strives to inspire kids to lead active, healthy lives and pursue their biggest dreams.

Tom Thum: Armed with just a microphone, Thum pushes the limits of the human voice to create incredible soundtracks of impossible beats and phenomenal sounds, with scratched vinyl, the Michael Jackson back-catalogue, the didgeridoo and an entire fifties jazz band amongst his vocal repertoire.
You can follow Tom on FaceBook (TomThummer) and Twitter (@tomthummer)
Quoting from ABCs Triple J Unearthed website:
«TOM THUM, THE VERSATILE VOICEBOX Tom Thum appears to have swallowed an entire orchestra and several backing singers The Guardian (UK)
There are not enough superlatives to describe the wonder of this beatboxing virtuoso — I am still trying to figure out how he got those sounds out of his mouth The Daily Telegraph (UK)
The mic master seems to have an orchestra living in his throat: trumpet blasts, guitar strums and samples from classic songs including Michael Jacksons „Billie Jean“ effortlessly spout from his mouth Time Out, NY
These are apt quotes to describe the performance of one of Australias most prominent and respected beatboxers and serial pests. Only in his mid-twenties Tom Thum has achieved and experienced more than most artists could hope to achieve in a lifetime. From winning the team battles (alongside Joel Turner) in the World Beatbox Championships in 2005, to fulfilling every artists dream and performing on Broadway in New York with the Tom Tom Crew, Tom has seen his fair share of accolades and well and truly paid his dues. Raised by the small but accommodating Brisbane hip hop scene, Tom started out as a graffiti writer and a Bboy but slowly rose to recognition through his ability to produce unhuman sounds and his natural knack for performing and weaselling his way on stage…
Although the stage seems the ideal habitat for Tom he is also no stranger to community and has been helping the scene improve through conducting a plethora of workshops in many places that usually wouldnt have access to such knowledge and skill. Tom has travelled from the very top of Australia teaching in the Indigenous communities of Mornington and Thursday Islands all the way to the very bottom with a series of workshops in Tasmania and Adelaide.
He has also spent considerable time teaching on Palm Island and in Charleville and many other places that would otherwise be Starved for education about proper hip hop and the positive message that music preaches.
As Toms experience within the music industry expands, he plans to push the limits of the human voice as far as inhumanly possible. Enrolling the help of numerous loop stations, Tom has been conducting DJ sets using only his voice and nothing else, propelling crowds across the country into a frenzy of jaw-dropping disbelief, as he re-creates and remixes classic joints and jams from all eras and genres. At present Tom is working on an album ranging across many different generes and features and hopes to have it finished by early 2012. You might see him on a stage at a festival looping up a storm or supporting anyone from the Hilltop Hoods to Blue King Brown, or you might catch him annoying the hell out of commuters on public transport. Either way, you will notice him soon enough. Keep an ear out for Tom Thum.»

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. At this talk Camui rocket scientist, Tsutomu Uematsu entices a bold talk of journey to his accomplishments. Full of emotions, laugh and cries he has a humanly way to exploring science.
Tsutomu Uematsu has been fascinated by space since his childhood. He learned fluid mechanics in the university and joined a company designing aircraft in Nagoya. In 1994, he came back to Hokkaido and joined Uematsu Elecetoric Co, managed by his father, Kiyoshi Uematsu. He developed and produced electric magnet used for removing and selecting iron from industrial waste.
Ten years later, his encounter with Prof. Nagata, a researcher of Camui Rocket in Graduate School of Hokkaido University, promised him to give a full support to the rocket research with his love of space. Since then, he has been contributed to four research projects: ‘rocket developments,’ ‘experiments on microgravity,’ which creates the zero-gravity environment like space, ‘developments of a miniaturized satellite,’ and ‘cooperative projects with American private space development corporations.
His main accomplishments are the research and the launch of the artificial satellite “HIT-SAT,” experimental launch of Camui Rocket (reaching 3,500 meter altitude), the cooperative experimental launch with JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency), a start-up of ARC project, and etc. In 2012, he achieved to reach 7,400 meter altitude on the experimental launch of Camui Rocket 500p.

Himalayan forests are home to abundant biodiversity. Forests play an important role in the livelihoods of rural people worldwide, particularly in the poorest socio-economic groups (i.e., indigenous peoples, peasant communities, tribal and rural societies) living in and around forested areas. In this film we follow a group of Kham Magars from Mid-Western Nepal that set on a journey to the high Himalayas to gather wood for building a village house. The wood was collected at the altitude of 3500m (11500ft) above the village of Maikot in Rukum District.
